Before Asterion, I was held captive before. For a very long time, almost longer than I was free. It was... it was the darkest time I had ever known, and I learned to retreat to survive. In action, in thought, it was all I could do to protect myself, and it was my only escape.
Asterion was not the same, but I treated it as if it were. As if I were alone, when I was not. I am sorry for pulling away. You deserve better than that.

[That's not very specific!!! But Maya finds him pretty quickly, maybe surprisingly so. She's starting to get an idea of the place, and she's got a particularly good memory]

( he'd rather eat branches and leaves and moss off the ground than the gruel and horrible mystery meat they serve in prison, though, so he's not to be trusted. )
We'll find something a little more palatable together, I promise. ( though berries are hardly a meal, they're at least quite tasty. together, they'll get enough for Maya to have something sweet to last her a few days. )
