They go hand in hand, don't they? [But she pauses to consider this new information. Okay, Apollo clearly meant badge flashing, so...]

Wait! I get it!

[A dramatic pause, and she slams her hands on the table]

He sprained his wrist!

[Nailed it, Maya]

[pollygrapher]

I don't think he's sprained his wrist. [He adds, almost as an afterthought--] He did sprain his ankle when he got hit by a car recently, though.

[Yeah, he's still not over that one. Who the heck is that lucky?]

That's weird.... why would spraining his ankle affect his badge-flashing? Are his joints really messed up or--

[And then what Apollo just said seems to properly sink in, and her eyes widen.]

Wait-- he got hit by a car?! I can't leave him alone for five minutes!

[pollygrapher]

You really can’t. [Apollo manages a small laugh before he sobers again.]

It's...not because of any injuries, though. You're not going to like what I'm about to tell you. [As he clears his throat, Apollo musters enough courage to actually keep going this time.] He couldn't show off his badge for a while because--well, because he was disbarred.

[The words come out in a rush.]

Disbarred....? [Maya echoes, blinking. She's heard bits and pieces of this story already, but her mind goes to the absolute weirdest place.... because it's Maya]

Wait-- did he lose his badge in a bar?! Geez, he really must have been hitting the grape juice too hard...
