[Maribelle assumes they're just hiding from the crazy robots and she dutifully follows Maya behind the stand. Perhaps a little eager to take a break from running. She misses her horse already.]

"High-tech"? Darling, I'm afraid I- [huff huff] don't quite know what you mean.

[Give her a second to catch her breath.]

[Yes, now free from their overly affectionate, the Fey girls are free to resume their time-displaced reunion in peace. Except that Maya's gaping openly at her cousin, looking her up and down.]

N-No way! You can't be seventeen, that's.... that's.... [...Her age, actually.] Pearly, you're so big! You're almost as tall as me! [Well, she still has some height on her, but...]

[Wow, there's nothing racist about telling it like it is!! He's got bunny ears, clearly he does bunny stuff. It's not that hard to put together.]

[During these six seconds, Maya jumps up and down next to the robot in the failed attempts to set him free. BUT ALAS, poor Zara is subjected to the full force of the affection and dumped on the ground after the huggening.]

[Maya automatically goes to help steady him, looking concerned (?!)]

Mr. Bunny, how many fingers am I holding up? [She's not even holding up any] I have to check your pulse! Keep your legs elevated! Don't go to the light!!

[ he huffs and puffs a few more times, looking over at Maya with something akin to confusion. This sure has been a wild ride from start to finish. Zara's not even sure what just happened, other than he failed at protecting himself (and anyone) from that dumb robot. At least all he got was a rib-bruising hug. ]

N -- No, you really don't, I'm all right... [ waving her off. even though she's mostly just spouting nonsense, as far as he can tell. ] Just surprised.

[ She leads the way, inconspicuously taking routes that avoid any flashy rides. That's enough robots for the day, thank you! Instead, they walk past a hotdog stand, and Ryuko's pace slows down as she takes note of it.

They could get something to eat... it would be the safest option for Maya, considering where they're at. ]

[Truly, this is a Ghibli moment. Maya stuffing chocolate into the mouth of an unconscious Yuyuko, who is gurgling earnestly on the ground.]

[Maya even notices all the flashes of cameras and takes care to pose accordingly: sHIELDING YUYUKO WITH HER BODY]

I... I won't let you do this! Her hair isn't camera-ready!

[Apparently she hasn't put two and two together yet.]

[Ah, the up and coming sidekick is already protesting his role...! It's okay. She's used to this boisterous type by now. She knows exactly what to say to calm him down.]

C'mon, Iceman! Everyone starts somewhere - if you really wanna be a hero, you gotta earn it! I'll show you the ropes and everything.

[Anyway, like most people, this guy clearly doesn't get Maya's vision. Or her intelligence. Or her completely unquestionable sanity (uh huh)]

[She gives him a weird look]

Why would I need to rest? I'm not the one who lost my soul!

[And she gestures to that poor unconscious fellow.]

[Well, there's something familiar. That bit of terseness when she tries to get him to say her name.... ah, some things never change.]

Just Maya! And I'll call you just Kaoru, and we can dodge the paparazzi together! How does that sound?

[Unfortunately, Maya actually isn't completely making up what she's describing. For once. Also unfortunately--]

I just know! I can feel it! My spirit medium sense is tingling all over! [--She's got no explanation. Oops. Well, the lack of a soul is pretty legit, but who knows about the zombies. The facts are as such: shaking them profusely isn't reviving them, and there are no soul-stealing monsters currently in view]

Um... we can try regular salt? Or pour water on their heads? There was food around here somewhere....

[Maya's probably swishing the sword around as this process starts, so she has the sense to stop and stare at it as it groans. Once she feels the spirit stuff going on, she lets go and looks impressed instead]

[Maya was once a super-popular 'character' on a murder mystery show. She's used to having merchandise of herself!!! And everyone!! Including him!!]

[Even if she weren't, (she's also a weirdo) she's always been a sucker for things. As such, she's looking Gundam up and down, clearly scanning him intensely for merchandise]

You know, stuff! [She gestures to a particularly dignified print of Maya tenderly shoving a hamburger in her face] Like this! Don't you have a bunch? Or a plushie of you hugging an alien or something?

[Cerealia isn't exactly a small colony, but with everyone restricted from leaving, there's still a pretty high chance of running into someone you know. Like now. Apollo eyes Maya from across the table at the diner they'd both apparently picked for lunch. With the lunch rush making tables limited, it hadn't exactly been a hard decision to share--besides, Apollo figures it's a good an opportunity as any to talk to his boss' old assistant.

He slides the menu back into its little slot to the side, taking a sip of his coffee as he does.]

So... [Apollo starts awkwardly.] I've read some of Mr. Wright's old case files. [More like all of them.] You're a spirit medium, right?

[Well, Maya's always happy to talk to Apollo, even if he doesn't 'remember' her. It's nice enough just knowing that he's here and.... more or less safe... well, safer than he'd be in murdercamp. Maybe he can even be happy here, as much as CERES's shenanigans will allow]

[Also: if he's sitting here, maybe she can get him to pay for her lunch]

[She's already drank her soda, so she fiddles idly with the straw and look at him with her full attention - until the food arrives, anyway.]

Yep, that's right! .... In training!

It's hard to believe he's actually a boss with you guys taking orders from him.... [She says, even though Phoenix is her boss.] Does he make you clean the toilet all the time?

[Maya has yet to really throw anything at Phoenix, but she did almost hit Phoenix with a broom, if that counts for anything. Maybe she'll learn with the lunk here. But unfortunately for her, she seems more interested in trying to get him dunked on, which is backfired. She squeals in protest as he picks her up, pushing at his face and hair still, but she knows he's doing to dunk her no matter what]

( try not being three feet tall, Maya, maybe you would be less easy to pick up then. or not really, as long as it is Peter doing the lifting, but shh, that's not the point. try being a vaguely normal size, kiddo.

she's got him here. if he goes through with it, he's exactly what she claims. if he doesn't, then, well, he won't get to dunk her, and where is the fun in that. so without mercy, he does indeed toss her in the water. )

Maybe you have a point about this lunk thing. ( he says once she surfaces, already laughing in anticipation of what he knows is next. at least he's in water deep enough to actually knock him into, this time. )

[Wow, she actually got him to smile. And not in a creepy way. Maya looks pleased with herself, even more so when he doesn't react negatively to the arm pat. He really is making progress. (Though, honestly, she wouldn't have anticipated that kind of reaction from him in the first place]

[She was expecting to argue, but he doesn't -- so that's good. There's no pretense. He knows that she knows, he can't act otherwise. Her smile fades down to one that's more melancholy, the first time she's ever made such an expression around him, or most people in Audentes]

I do but I don't..... It's complicated. [....] I don't want to leave things like this. But I think you all might be better off without me.

[That's the most honest she's ever been around him, too]

[He looks at her then, long and hard, and though his eyes remain - as always - hidden behind his sunglasses, the weight of his gaze upon her is likely to be felt. He's not given towards empathy or the understanding of others' feelings. Wasn't made for that, and had spent so long isolated and alone down there in the depths of what passed for a home and a prison both that he's had little practice with it, either.

But it's unlike her, isn't it? To reveal anything else about her nature besides a cheery facade. And so he tries to focus on that, on something outside of his own head and out in the world, for a change.]
